Runner Rug Size Guide
A runner rug should fit the walkway with a little floor showing on every side. Use this guide to pick between our three runner sizes, then browse all washable runner rugs.
Our runner sizes
| Size (ft) | Size (cm) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2' × 6' | 60 × 180 | Narrow hallways up to about 3 ft wide, in front of a kitchen sink or counter, beside a bed |
| 2.6' × 8' | 80 × 240 | Standard hallways about 3–4 ft wide, galley kitchens, entryways |
| 3.3' × 10' | 100 × 300 | Long or wide hallways 4 ft and up, entry halls, kitchen islands |
How to measure
- Measure the width of the hallway or walkway. Subtract about 8–12 in so 4–6 in of floor shows on each side.
- Measure the length. Subtract about 6–12 in at each end so doors swing freely and the runner stops before thresholds.
- Pick the closest size that fits both numbers. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller one for a tidy border.
- Check doors and vents. Our low-pile runners fit under most doors; leave floor vents uncovered.
Room by room
- Hallway: center the runner and keep an even border on both sides. For very long halls, two runners of the same design with a small gap work better than one that is too short.
- Kitchen: place a 2' × 6' runner along the sink and stove; a 2.6' × 8' fits most galley kitchens and islands. Machine washing makes spills easy to handle.
- Entryway: combine a runner with a matching doormat outside the door to catch dirt before it reaches the hall.
- Bedroom: a 2' × 6' runner on one or both sides of the bed gives a soft first step.
Care and grip
Every runner has a non-slip dotted backing and fringe-free edges and can be machine washed cold or at 30 °C / 86 °F on a gentle cycle; air dry flat. On stairs or very polished floors add a rug pad.
